2009 Series entitled: "Songs of the Son." This painting, originally done as a 36" x 24" oil on linen is entitled "the Song of Spring" by D. Loren Champlin. This is an abstract representational work of my son enjoying the flowers on the first day of spring. The work was shown at the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery (May 2009) exhibit and was sold.
p>what compelled me about this subject: Spring in Maine is a time of rejuvenation and hope. In Maine after a long, hard winter, oftentimes we just sit outside in the sun in the warm son enjoying the flowers.
Information of the creation of the piece Well, it all started with a sketch of a model as most of my works do. The story evolved in my mind as between the sketches and the painting, so I had a fairly clear idea of how I wanted to paint it by the time the linen was hand stretched and hand primed. The painting was done several weeks after the initial sketches and as an expressionist, the lines and the color pretty much evolve over the course of working the painting. So basically an oil painting on stetched linen. In this case about a month. Definitely one of my favorite pieces. Maybe the colours, bright pinks, greens, and reds, or perhaps the pose itself. or perhaps just being of someone I love and care deeply about.
